News from the Amicale de l'Oflag IID-IIB-XXIB

2023

I- Entraide, Secours et Dons

Hello everyone,
With Géraud, we are happy to invite you to a drink, with some autographs, on Thursday, December 8th at the town hall of the 9th district in Paris.
To our escapes!
Elodie

Dear readers,
I am very pleased to announce the publication of Comment fausser compagnie à ses geôliers allemands, an unpublished text by Lieutenant Géraud de Bonnafos, rediscovered more than 70 years after it was written by his grandchildren Elodie and Géraud.
An officer when the Second World War broke out, Lieutenant de Bonnafos was taken prisoner in 1940 and sent to an oflag.
In this camp, he witnessed many ingenious and surprising escape attempts and tried to regain his freedom three times, but was unfortunately always caught.
Suffering from severe pleurisy, the young officer was finally repatriated to France in 1942 for medical reasons. During his convalescence in a sanatorium, he gave this astonishing lecture (transcribed here for the first time) based on his experience and that of his comrades.
Enjoy reading it,
Pierre de Taillac
Publisher

Sunday 17 MAY 2015 : date to remember

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the LIBERATION of the Oflags and Stalags, the Amicale de l'Oflag IID-IIB-XXIB will visit the village of Moutiers Saint Jean in the Côte d'Or,
in the village of Moutiers Saint Jean, in order to pay homage to Father Henri DUPAQUIER who was the parish priest of this village.

Father DUPAQUIER, who could have been repatriated as a veteran of the 1st World War
in the early days of his captivity, refused this opportunity. He wished to stay with his fellow prisoners
considering that they were "his" parishioners and that the Oflag had become "his" parish.
He gave it the name of "Saint Pierre aux Liens".
He remained a great character in the memory of the captives of this Oflag.
He regularly stood up to the Germans.
This was the case, for example, when he went to see Lieutenant André RABIN who was wounded when he came out of an escape tunnel on the third night that it was in use. 17 officers had already escaped during the previous two nights.
the previous two nights. The Germans were waiting at the exit of the 117 metre long tunnel.
The Germans wanted to chase him out of the infirmary where the wounded man had been taken, but Father DUPAQUIER prevailed and stayed. Lieutenant RABIN died the next day in the hospital of Stalag IIB in Hammerstein where he had been taken during the night.
he had been taken during the night. At the time of the burial of this officer in the cemetery of this Stalag
Henri DUPAQUIER celebrated a mass in Oflag IID in his memory.
Numerous protests erupted as "ASSASSINS". These demonstrations were repressed by the Germans
by the Germans and sanctions were imposed.

He had also obtained the right to visit the prisoners in Stalags in the region where there were no prisoners.
there was no priest.

A mass will be celebrated at 10.30 a.m. on 17 May by Father Christian BAUD, the current parish priest.

The commune has decided to join in this tribute.
Indeed, after the war, Father DUPAQUIER presided over the restoration of the church and he was very involved with the young people of his commune within sports associations. He organised trips for them
one of which took place in Algeria.

If you would like to attend, please let us know by sending an e-mail to the
to the internet address in the CONTACT section of our website.

The day before, members who are able to do so, will pay their respects at his grave in the Dijon cemetery where he is buried and a wreath will be laid.

1 FEBRUARY 2015: date to remember
29 January 1945 - 29 January 2015:....already 70 years old....

Arnswalde, 29 January 1945: "5.30 am. It is dark. The doors of our block...are suddenly open" .... writes P. Escoube. The prisoner officers were hastily preparing to leave the Arnswalde camp in Pomerania under pressure from the Russians for an unknown destination to the West, which we could call "The Long March"...of more than 500 km....

70 years later, let us also free ourselves and trust our certainties: "Let us open the doors of the Amicale" to those, families and friends, who want to remember and let us allow them to meet together on this anniversary around a past that is common to us all.

We propose to meet on Sunday 1 February 2015 in the afternoon at the Ecole Militaire in Paris for a performance that we offer with the participation of storytellers who will present poignant texts and poems written in captivity. You will find the programme of this event inside bulletin n° 382 as well as a registration form. A DVD of the "archives" of the Amicale intended to immortalise the memory of the officers imprisoned in the OFLAG IID IIB will be made available to you on this occasion and will be sent to the Service Historique des Armées in Vincennes.
